Oct 01, 1996

This 1996 video documents the history of Montgomery Securities as a firm, discusses its rise among other Wall Street firms, and reveals its enormous growth and the sheer amount of successful business it conducts.

The video opens with images of people walking to work and a voiceover that says the firm begins work, as a team, just before five A.M. The video’s content moves quickly after that, offering insights from team members as well as the companies Montgomery has helped to succeed. StrataCom CEO Richard Moley discusses the deal in which StrataCom was acquired by Cisco, noting that it was “the biggest deal ever done in the fastest time ever done.”

It also emphasizes the culture at Montgomery Securities. Jerome Markowitz, then-Senior Managing Director of Capital Markets, states that the company’s culture favors self-expression: “if you can do it, we will allow you to do it,” he says. In addition, employees are encouraged to do activities together outside of work.

Thom Weisel also appears in the video. He discusses the foundation of his company, the details of its growth, and his hopes for its future. In addition, he shares some of the company’s methods and their successes as well as some of the transactions Montgomery had recently made.

Part of the video also illustrates the employees’ excitement about the company’s growth and the business it conducts. Joseph Schell, then-Senior Managing Director and Co-Executive Director of Investment Banking at Montgomery, discusses the importance of Montgomery’s relationship with its clients. He says, “Our bankers are responsible for making sure that all the services of this firm, which are considerable, are delivered to the benefit of that relationship.”
